Yorkshire Forward is the Regional Development Agency, established in 1999 and charged with improving the Yorkshire and Humber economy.
Encouraging an enterprise culture will have a major impact on the future of the region’s economy.
Yorkshire Forward has supported a number of initiatives specifically aimed at young people, including the Northern Enterprise in Education Programme, Rotherham Ready and Graduates Yorkshire as well as the Embedding Enterprise in Education in Yorshire & Humber programme and the establishment of the Young People's Enterprise Forum.
“Enterprise and entrepreneurial behaviour are key drivers in the growth of our economy and to ensure that we exploit opportunities in the future and accelerate our regional growth it is vital that we embed a positive attitude towards enterprise in our young people” Alex McWhirter, former Head of Enterprise, Yorkshire Forward
The Young People’s Enterprise Forum was created in 2000 to lead this agenda with a formal position in the Regional Economic Strategy.
Following the government's decision to abolish Regional Development Agencies by April 2012, Yorkshire Forward have worked closely with their partners to ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities and a strong legacy.
